QR: travel back in time in Business! OTP-ZNZ for 1289 euros

QR is advertising Bucharest to Zanzibar in Business for 1,289 euros with promotion code VISAWKD. Booking period is March 16-18 for travel beginning Feb 16. Hmmmm....

The offers from Bucharest include
Zanzibar -- 1289 euros
Seoul -- 1549 euros
Hong Kong -- 1489 euros
Beijing -- 1499 euros

The full list can be found here:
https://www.qatarairways.com/en-ro/o...a-weekend.html

Unfortunately, it looks like they botched the sales period (March instead of February), so it seems like none of the fares can be booked. Hopefully they will get this fixed, because I would like to book either Zanzibar or Hong Kong.

Tried the code on MCT-BKK leg and got 2% off (not 45%). Wonder where that 40% off is!

As usual with QR promo codes, the key words are "up to". Unfortunately the codes often aren't valid for the cheapest fares and can be flexible in terms of %.

Doesn't it say that the booking period is March 16 -18? Why would you expect to get a reduced price now?

It also says that the Travel Period starts 16 February. And they emailed the offer to all subscribers today.

So the sales period is clearly this weekend - not 16-18 March.

Notwithstanding the text in this thread, the website says:

Sales period: 16/02/2018 until 18/02/2018.

Perhaps they didn't get it right first time

But it's all very much in QR's latest marketing style: drag the punter in with headline discount, then disappoint him with "up to" and "excluding..." It's a nonsense that alienates as much as it attracts.

It alienates me more than it might attract. Al Baker must take us all for fools...

I especially like it when I enter a discount code that causes the fare to increase...

The code always worked in my case. Sometimes the discount was barely 5%. In other cases "Business Promo" magically appeared when entering the promo code (discount of ~40%). Takes a lot of searching though.

That QR couldn't be so generous as in the past was however quite obvious. They have a product that is sufficiently good to compete on a non-price basis. The blockade of Qatar doesn't help either.

If I understand it correctly, QR takes the discount off the standard fare buckets (ie. full and unrestricted fares), which is why in most cases you will still see the existing promo fare bucket still cheaper than the itinerary you pulled with the promo code.

Not sure what the blockade has got to do with maintaining high prices: it's shot a hole though major markets and network feed.

Just got off yet another flight with well under 50% of the seats taken. Price is really the only tool they have to fill them. But perhaps they've realised there's a bottom to the demand curve.
