Has anyone had issues simply transiting ALG without a visa? What about returning back to USA if you do enter Algeria? Has anyone had any problems? Considering this fare for AA EQMs.
Some report that ALG pushes everyone through immigration even if transiting (which Timatic says no visa required for intl transit <24 hours)...something seems odd about this. I speak French, but don't want to be denied boarding to ALG if they think that a visa is mistakenly needed.

I have been reading a lot about the ALG-FOC fare in that thread, it seems most people had no issue going through without a visa, but they had to have ground staff exit secure area to bring them a boarding pass. Now, I am more concerned with SSSS being a standard on boarding passes in the future simply for transiting through this airport. No one specifically mentions it in the FOC thread, but you never know.

Have two algerian visas on my Canadian passport, never received SSSS so far, entered US 7 times since those visas.
Regarding airside transit without visa, you will follow the directions to immigration as there is no transfer route. Try to get in before the Doha or Dubai flights, because otherwise you will be stuck behind 400-500 people. Foreign passports are on the right hand lanes. Take an immigration landing card and fill out all details, except put "Transit" when asked for duration of stay. When you get to the window say "TRANSIT"(note that twice I've tried to say "correspondances" and was met with blank stares....) and someone will take you past the immigration booth to a set of four chairs on the right, just before exit security. You will need to wait there until your next flight opens for check in, at which time your handler will go get your boarding passes for you. They will then escort you back upstairs and transfer security at one of the departure gates which will decant you back into the departure lounge. Note you will need to go "against" the flow of departing passengers when doing transfer security so you may need to wait a bit -- all in all the process takes about 30 mins if your next flight has already opened for check in. No stamps whatsoever in passport. Relatively painless, but know that there is no Wi-Fi while waiting for your boarding passes so download content before hand or bring something to read/do. Both times I transited there were other Chinese expats from nearby countries (Tunisia, Morocco, Mauritania) using this channel.
i have no insight on checked baggage in this process, sorry. They asked initially but after I said I didn't have any there was no further follow up.
