AV: JFK - LIM, $660ish

Avianca, JFK - LIM with a stop in BOG/UIO, several dates in April 2018 (April 11 - April 22, +/- 3 days), $660 or so depending on booking site.

Also can add a stopover in UIO for a total of about $730

Most flights are on A330 which should be "angled flat", I think. Or did Avianca complete the switch to the new lie flat seats?

BCNforever Oct 17, 2017 11:54 am

I flew AV on JFK-BOG 7AM flight and it was lie flat, but the whole 330 fleet has not been refurbished yet

'those'?

vincewy Oct 17, 2017 1:48 pm

Would you be able to provide a link of this deal? The best I can do $860 is by forcing a connection in Bolivia (LPB or VVI)

I'm seeing availability from Nov - Feb on Google Flights. Can't post URLs yet due to forum rules.

There is a 2-stop return through UIO/BOG. No lie flats.

br2k Oct 17, 2017 2:12 pm

I've got it with a 1 stop through BOG both on the way out and back (although 2 stop return was more common)

How do you check wrt. lie flats?
FWIW The seat assignments I have do not match the seat map for the old A330 config.

Try this link: https://www.kayak.com/flights/NYC-LI...xible/business

I suspect this rate will be gone fairly soon, though.

vincewy Oct 17, 2017 4:40 pm

Million thanks, I think I'm just going for a long weekend getaway for Cusco, and the miles alone will be worth it. I believe this is JFK-Ecuador fares with LIM as one of the permitted stopover cities.

p.s. It has limited dates and only on certain OTAs. But you can force it on expedia.com by creating multi-city booking, JFK-UIO,UIO-LIM, and LIM-JFK, the first 2 the same day in case you don't want to stay in Quito.

Jsandell Oct 17, 2017 6:06 pm

As of a few minutes ago, the fare (JFK-LIM w/ 2 stops in BOG and UIO) can still be found on Google Flights, with purchase available on on Cheap-o-Air. However, before clicking the purchase button, I researched on Seat Guru and the particular flight I looked at would be an old Airbus A330-200 (332) configuration ("angle flat"), which, according to the reviews, is not very comfortable. The pictures also depict an old-looking business class cabin. Based on those factors, and having to make 2 short stops, I'm going to pass on this one. If I was trying to make status or earn miles usable in the Star Alliance, I might think about this harder, but I'm an AA flyer so this trip would do nothing for increasing my EQDs or EQMs.

Was able to replicate using multicity to Lima using UR, half day layover in Bog on way in and Uio on way out. Thanks OP.

rmannion Oct 17, 2017 8:22 pm

Thanks for the tip, vincewy! Was able to duplicate and book in Expedia just now.

vincewy Oct 17, 2017 9:04 pm

By forcing multi-city booking like JFK-UIO,UIO-LIM,LIM-JFK, the availability seems wide open. If you plan to have a long layover in Ecuador you can replace UIO with GYE for a little bit more (like $10) due to Quito's altitude.

p.s. They are still there so book now, you can always cancel within 24 hours at expedia.com. Last year AV had $450 LAX/ORD-Peru and there was no issue at all from AV.

br2k Oct 17, 2017 9:18 pm

This deal (probably scrubbed from this post) was posted on secretflying - no wonder it's gone.
They also state it's an error fare (how exactly do *they* know - as if they have any extra insight into these things :) ).

soy Oct 17, 2017 9:22 pm

Secretflying are idiots - they call everything an error, even when it clearly is not.

vincewy Oct 17, 2017 9:55 pm

Fares are still alive and going, I would book it now if you need *A miles, it's 150% for most FFPs.

Not for UA, unfortunately.

k_sheep Oct 19, 2017 5:03 pm

Well it looks like I'm all ticketed. Now to hope nothing changes, because I booked with justfly which is notoriously bad with after sales service!

br2k Oct 19, 2017 5:31 pm

I booked mine through Expedia. FWIW it ticketed in 10 minutes and appears on Avianca site as of now. We'll see.

BTW - based on the seat assignments I have, it looks like the daytime JFK-BOG is in the new lie-flat J configuration, while the redeye is using old angled flat seats.

It would seem more logical to do the opposite as people would probably appreciate sleeping overnight, but whatever.

gary_nj Oct 20, 2017 1:30 pm

The fare still seems to be around. I booked one that is basically to Bogota for a few days, with onward flight to UIO (the fare destination) and then back to New York with two stops (LIM, BOG). So the mileage accrual includes the segments to/from Lima, but you can use BOG as a stopover if you prefer that.

k_sheep Oct 20, 2017 5:27 pm

Hmm now who to credit to. I've got zero *A status with a few measly points in SQ. Any hints on which program is most useful for the relatively small number of points this one will accrue? Will just be looking to burn them.

br2k Oct 20, 2017 8:25 pm

This is a D fare (for me) that would earn 125% on SQ, but only 100% on UA. Did not check others.

Ailoev Dec 26, 2017 3:56 pm

These flights are still showing on Google Flights but don't seem bookable. Anybody having any luck?

Booked a few days ago and flying in the spring. Booked with a TA and spoon fed the legs.

PABLOCO Dec 27, 2017 10:40 am

About 1000 USD the other way, not bad since this route is about 1500 on Copa with only recliners and 1900 on Lan (plus AA).

vincewy Jan 9, 2018 2:25 pm

This fare is still available, believe it or not, if you're flexible with departure date (seems to be limited to Mon-Thur) and don't cherry pick the flights and timing you prefer (A330). First find the flight combinations with this price at kayak.com and try to book it via AV

Labor Day weekend, for example, (8/30-9/4), using AV's Other Countries version

https://www.avianca.com/otr/en/

You can see the multi city booking. The following is the date/flight combo I entered and showing $678

8/30 JFK-UIO (AV21/AV8373)
8/30 UIO-LIM (AV7388)
9/4 LIM-JFK (AV24/AV20)

two_scoops Feb 1, 2018 9:24 am

I booked JFK-UIO for 4 pax in November for $770 p.p. Connection in BOG with good (2hr) connection times. Seems to be really good availability throughout the year at the same price every day. It is a very decent fare.

There are two A330 flights a day on the 5.5hr JFK-BOG leg - one is a newer lie-flat and one is angled-flat. Going out the angled-flat is overnight and the lie-flat departs early morning. The lie-flat times are less convenient on the way back with 3.5 hr connection in BOG and a 4.25am arrival in JFK, so I went for angled flat that gets in at 9.00pm instead. BOG-UIO is a 1.5hr flight on A319 or A320 recliners.

The price on Google flights shows at around $710 but then jumps to $770 when you click through to book. It is bookable directly on Avianca, though I did it through Orbitz.
