A nice find and very good price IMO.

You have to be ok with flying in the opposite direction for a few hours - some people are a bit funny with that.

http://www.wheretocredit.com/calcula...J/IST-CPH-TK-J Books into J: 18,000 miles with M&M

However, you have to be aware about the earning of miles with M&M. You only earn as written below:

On selected flights you can earn:

award miles
25% of the earned award miles as status miles

Did anyone find any other city pairs? like AMS-ORD, or CPH-LAX?

Thanks OP! Perfect, just what I needed to get to LAX (via ORD) and rack up the extra miles for my 1K status, so flying backward to IST was actually a benefit in my case.

Connecting through IST certainly adds a few miles.

In general since TK J is only 100% on UA Mileageplus I usually find that flying UA/LH/LX/AC usually offers better value as you get 200% PQMs in J, even when fares are slightly higher.

I do agree it was a good price. However there are quite often other star alliance ex-Europe to USA fares at much less twice the price.

I just checked on this fare and on the days I see the TK 1050 EUR fares. the other *A fares are around 1700 EUR.

But the TK flights typically have very long connect times in IST (over 15 hours). I have found TK flights with shorter connections but the availability at that 1050 EUR fare really drops.

I have 2 hour 15 min connections, and for the 1050 - so I'm a happy camper.

Not sure you are correct on that one. I am no UA collector, but I thought most business class fares on Lufthansa ("P" fares) earn only 100% on UA.

That is certainly one thing I find frustrating about Star Alliance. Many business class fares earn only 100% or less.... sometimes even 0% on partners.

It really depends on the specific business fare class. For LH, LX and OS fare classes J, C, and D earn 200%, Z earns 150% and P only 100%. With TK C, D, Z & K earn 125% and J only 100%.
