QR J Companion fares (i.e. ATL-BOM for 2 in J for $2340 each)

QR is running a sale including business class companion tickets:
http://www.qatarairways.com/us/en/of...-boutique.page

I can't find many details, but the ATL-BOM for 2 in J for $2340 each seems good. Many of the other fares are still high in my opinion.

@Love_Travel: how are you able to get this deal on LH?

Edit: Oh, never mind. I see that you can get this price even for a single traveler via the regular means (google flights, etc.).

Agreed. The JFK-HKG fare is $5050 on the companion fares. You can get single ticket nonstop fares well under $5000 on decent carriers (CX, NH, KE, etc). AY can be had for under $3200.

Exactly. I booked the ticket for my spouse via LH website after seeing the fare in Google Flight.

JFK-SIN is $4k pp; last time I saw (and considered) this deal it was $2.4k pp.

It is just a marketing ploy. You put a couple of good to very good fares in with a bunch everyday (to possibly slightly lower than average) fares and hope you get action on the more profitable ones.

And it looks like Delta has put ATL-BOM back on sale now to out-compete QR. And may buy single fares...no companion necessary. I just bought one for $2299 in April.

From October to May -- as low as $2270 RT on some dates and tons available at $2299 for other dates.

ATL to BOM is the only fare <$3k ... when booked with a companion.

$3-5k r/t in J US to .. anywhere ... is hardly an "excellent" fare.

Am I missing something here?

Think it's different opinions/expectations on prices. I'm happy with business if it's generally at less than 2.5 times the cheap economy price. Of course this would vary massively according to route but for me I'd only be looking at international long haul. Other people would be happy with bigger multipliers and anything less than 5 times the economy price, maybe they have more cash?

People the other day were jumping on a 'deal' that had been around for like 2 years solid and were saying how amazing it is. On my regular route and having booked a price many times much lower I pointed this out and got loads of abuse!

This is the way life is - what is a good deal to someone may not be so good to someone else, especially if they are less familiar with cheap prices or have different specific circumstances.

I suspect some of this is about mileage program details and accruals, and possibly status. Of course you have to have one eye on what miles you get and where you can shift them to. On big trips, you can earn almost enough miles for a one way business redemption. Note also the current 5x offer from Qatar before booking anything.

Agreed. The only issue I have with it is I can't get the same fare from ORD where our r/t airfares to BOM are $4500 at the lowest and quickly climb to $5500 or $6000..
