AA J LAX-MIA $397 RT soon (Sept 14 + couple days)

LAX to Miami in business on AA. Tomorrow (Thursday, and Saturday). Stay overnight. 777 lie flat

https://goo.gl/flights/kHUD

Would do this in a heartbeat if my schedule didn't conflict.

AA announce capping their flights to/from hurricane Irma affected areas at $99 in Y and $199 in F/J as a show of support to those affected.

I for one would find MRing this kind of thing to be morally bankrupt at best.

Ah! Is that what this is?

Well then... perhaps this is not the one to jump on.

I'm a little lost on this. Is the issue buying the seat from AA or, maybe, taking up a seat that may otherwise be occupied by a refugee returning home from LAX? Other?

I'm going to quote my post from the Y version of this deal:

As the [other thread's] OP mentioned each person will have their own ethical stance on this, but keep in mind that these fares are designed to get people home to Florida, and get family/friends down there to help out.

IMO it's one thing to book a great sale months in advance, or even take advantage of a mistake fare when some airline doesn't understand how decimal places work. It's quite another to be taking the last seat from somebody that needs to get back to take care of their damaged home, dead pet, or destroyed business. So if you're thinking about this just for the EQM, I'd urge you to at least think twice.
... so yeah. Even though I'm free, this is one of the very few times I won't jump. To each their own, though.

The latter, I suspect, would be sound analysis.

This is the mea culpa for the $1200 to $3000 fares they charged out of FL last week.

I don't see any ethical dilemma here unless one believes hordes of Miami residents fled to Southern California to wait out the storm.

Maybe it's targeting the Miami Dolphins?

Agree... I'm not feeling that bad for anyone that fled south Florida to LA which I am assuming that was very few people. Great for the airlines to offer this fare and I hope everyone that wants to take advantage of this fare will. South Florida will need visitors to help get their economy back on track.

There are family members and recovery workers who are in need of travel to and from Florida to assist and from assisting in the relief and recovery efforts. This is intended to remove barriers to travel. This is not intended for nor the time to "visit" South Florida.

Very good. Excellent sourcing.

Plus, this cap on pricing is not exclusive to the LAX-MIA market, it was something they rolled out on ALL nonstop destinations from Hurricane Irma affected areas in FL; It was indiscriminately applied.

And while true, the airlines (sans JetBlue) originally acted in a way that gave the appearance of price gouging (it may very well have been, but I'm on the fence), snapping up these seats is not going to "stick it" to AA. The most likely result would be taking the seat away from friends, family, rescue & aid workers and even the evacuees themselves.

This truly is not the time to visit most areas in FL.

Sure they need visitors to bring in dollars, but I get the impression that almost all businesses are not yet in a condition to provide a service for your dollars either.
