Singapore Air: Milan (MXP) to Melbourne (MEL) for £1,161 one-way
This deal may be good for a round-the world trip on points or as a return using points on one leg.
Note that round-trip is roughly double the price. You can find this date in November, on skyscanner - it is a very very nice deal indeed to eastern Australia.
You will also enjoy the amazing experience of flying Singapore Air business class - all-in-all win-win!

Good fare that works to MEL as well.
A bit cheaper for return tickets at EUR2,325 (~GBP2,070). As others said an excellent way to try out SQ J with the A350 to SIN and 777 to SYD/MEL

TG Prices MIL/FCO-MEL/SYD at 2285 EUR in J class
SQ Prices MIL/FCO-MEL/SYD at 2325 EUR in D class
SQ earns 150% miles with Miles&More, with maximum on MIL-SIN-SYD route giving 30882 miles for 2325 = 7.53 cpm
TG earns 200% miles with Miles&More, with maximum on MIL-BKK-SYD route giving 41160 miles for 2275 = 5.53 cpm
This is very interesting! Thanks
EDIT: It is also valid to AKL, which is 1300 miles further, giving best value!

I know its not SIN but AI (not my fav but do fly 787s) is offering FRA to SYD for £1900 on various dates into summer 2018. also, the above SIN rates are also through summer 2018.

I think there are miserable reviews of AI even in the premium classes. I wouldn't fly them if I had to pay for it (maybe not even if it were free)

I think looking online it seems that they are beyond horrible. No wonder the £1900 rate!
Also, garuda has these rates from LHR to Oz but problem is from Vietnam Google flights lists the business class as inclined and not true flat. Having said that, garuda has excellent reviews online.
