Nice! Thanks.

Is wheretocredit.com correct in saying this credits 450% to AS? I.e. about 54k rdm? If so, the miles earned are worth about about 40% of the fare.

Some other destinations are possible. Tried to figure out MEX with the Transcon on AA. Should be worth for 920 TP.

hm
so routing to PEK like this
LHR-PEK-HKG-LHR
or
LHR-HKG-PEK-LHR
and you can get free 72h visa (it should be extended to 144h in PEK by the end of 2017)

PIKnic Sep 1, 2017 8:09 am

EDI-LHR-HKG-PEK or reverse ?

For this route we are looking to stay in HKG for 10 days and use PEK to transit. Is there any benefit as to which way we go ?
I thought it might be better to fly straight back on A380 and go via PEK !

If you fly London-Hong Kong-Beijing-London, you cannot connect in Beijing same day because the first Cathay Dragon flight from Hong Kong arrives to Beijing late so that it does not qualify MCT.

But if you fly London-Beijing-Hong Kong-London, you can connect in Beijing same day.

zebes Sep 1, 2017 8:53 am

If crediting to AS, be wary, as you might not get credit for the HKG-PEK route on Cathay Dragon.

Just FYI, China now offers 10-year tourist visas (IIRC for about the same a one-year visa used to cost). Or at least they do for US citizens, though I don't see why UK citizens wouldn't also be included.

ps9a Sep 1, 2017 9:28 am

Great fare, OP! LHR-SFO rt under $3k.

Rowyourboat Sep 1, 2017 9:55 am

Looks like there's a pretty broad sale. If you sign-in to BA EC and have your location as UK, there's a lot of cheap F fares.

Quick glance for NA:
ATL from 1969 gbp
BOS from 1898 gbp
LAS from 2029 gbp
NYC from 1853 gbp
YYZ from 1696 gbp

All ex-LON. I didn't check the dates but this seems to come up annually. LON-SFO gets you ~60K RDM on Alaska w/ MVP 75K bonus, or around 45K w/o it.

Certain nationalities are eligible for transit in China without visa aka TWOV. In PEK, you are allowed up to 72 hours as long as your itinerary takes you to a "third country". HKG is treated as a separate country. In this case, you can do LHR-HKG-PEK-LHR or LHR-PEK-HKG-LHR, but not LHR-PEK-HKG-PEK-LHR without a visa.

Can I ask why the latter isn't valid? Surely it's a return flight ... LHR-PEK-HKG (valid for 72-hr visa) and then HKG-PEK-LHR (valid for 72-hr visa).

I stand corrected, I think you are right. I suggest going to China TWOV thread for more information: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/chin...er-thread.html

But this fare (London-Beijing R/T) does not allow this routing. If you fly like as you mentioned, it will be prices as London-Hong Kong R/T.

I have no issues staying in HK both outbound and inbound:

Of course no problem.
The fare allows up to 2 free stopovers in Area 3 (Asia & Oceania).

Is there any reason this is £90 more expensive in this itinerary? £2166 vs £2076
I thought you allowed to have free stopover in HKG.

jj12345 Sep 1, 2017 8:21 pm

Does anyone know if these fares are open to DEL? I'm not sure what the regular prices for that route is generally.

Actually, would prefer it to having to stay in PEK.

Stopover itself is free of charge if you apply this fare, but ot doesn't mean you can avoid paying taxes.
When you transit or depart from Hong Kong, you have to pay certain amount of taxes.

10-year multiple entry Chinese visa is only for US citizens.

1. In accordance with a 2014 China-U.S. visa arrangement, U.S. citizens may be eligible for 10-year multiple entry visa. The remaining validity of the U.S. passport must be over 12 months.

The standard China visa for UK citizens these days is 2 year multiple entry. It's bl**dy expensive, by the way.
