FYI, I was looking recently on Aeromexico and found that flights IAD-MEX-TIJ fall into a similar price range for business class and will yield the 150% DL MQM for someone traveling to the San Diego area. Just an overnight red eye outbound, layover, and the second connection back north. Return appears possible same-day. Definitely cheaper and more MQM rich than flying coast-to-coast in domestic first class to San Diego.
