Emirates First Class Malta-DXB-USA First Class one way for under $3K

Searching for a way to avoid BA this week and I stumbled on this interesting EK deal. Not a steal but cheaper, more miles and less stressful that CAI.
• MLA-DXB-JFK for $2,935 and most everywhere else in the US (LAX/SFO/SEA/IAD/BOS) for $3,535 one way.
• RT for $4,676 and $5,617 respectively.

readicculus Jan 1, 2017 3:53 pm

great find!

Lack Jan 1, 2017 4:09 pm

Also from ATH.

steveholt Jan 1, 2017 4:30 pm

So, for AS MVP's, given that the routing is MLA-LCA-DXB-JFK, this would earn 575% routing in A and 53,854 RDM? Fare rules suggest it's cancellable for 75 EUR.

steveholt Jan 1, 2017 4:41 pm

Biz is also available for €1755, which is angle-flat on the ~6 hour flight from MLA-DXB through LCA (in the early evening) and then obviously lie-flat on the 380 from DXB-JFK.

Good finds. Also, I can't help chuckling about the understandable desire to avoid BA.

Lol I'll take a routing on BA F via LHR any day over a routing over DXB... come on lads let's be serious here haha

Not necessarily (although pretty good odds for now). The latest EK 77Ws have a new J seat which is fully lie flat.

Good find. For me it's not about avoiding BA, but rather avoiding LHR. I really, really hate that airport.

And even cheaper.
ATH-JFK is $2,787 OW or $4,464 RT.
ATH-LAX is $3,097 OW or $4,930 RT.

Have used this fare for several years now. It's fantastic, however sometimes they downgrade the aircraft to 2 class on the DXB-ATH-DXB legs.

Even better, you should get a 75% discount for the downgrade ;-).

i have had no such luck! I asked for compensation, and EK call center told me to ask for it at the airport (DXB) and it was a waste of time.

Lack Jan 2, 2017 12:48 pm

File it with the relevant EU aviation authority.

Or take them to court. The 75% will be pro-rated for the distance of the leg against the whole ticket.

Given that it was only the last leg DXB-ATH leg (originally ATH-DXB-SFO-DXB-ATH), it is not worth the energy.

It's the principle that matters! Still even at prorated distance and minus commission to an agency that does the legwork you should be able to get a very nice dinner out of it.

ATH-DXB-SFO also has the same rates ($1900 for OW Biz/$2900 for OW F). Thinking about using this one way on my trip back from Santorini for the one year Anniversary with the wife.

Would I be able to ask for a stopover in DXB and enjoy the Dubai for a few days before DXB-SFO?

krazykanuck Jan 3, 2017 2:10 pm

I'm going to Amsterdam this weekend on that AM mistake fare from last year and after my first EK F redemption, I'm irrationally looking at this for my way home because it'd be awesome to do again. Would earn like 35k AS miles. Ugh :o

ex-MLA to BOS for $3500 in F is not really a good deal. For the same amount of money you can fly ex-CPT/JNB and get many more miles.

LOL. While true, I think it bears noting (again) that not a lot people care about BOS. ;)
And if you happen to be in Malta or in the EU for that matter, ex-CPT/JNB fares are pretty irrelevant. :D

Are you including travel from my (theoretical) holiday home in MLA to CPT as well as CPT-BOS in F in your $3500? ;)

Dieuwer Jan 3, 2017 3:08 pm

Once again, I can fly US-MLA for $3000 roundtrip in J. Have a flatbed too.
I think EK F is overrated. And the experience in DXB sucks.

It's pretty clear plenty of other people don't agree with this sentiment!

It better be, otherwise EK would go bust! :D

I do not think EK used to make money in F (or even J).. now that they are not making money even in Y, they are suffering.

Which of your airlines flies flat beds to MLA?

Somebody keep my Platinum card away from me. 35k AS miles and 15k MR points, as gravy to ~18 hrs in EK first class for $3k from a city near where I'll already be? So tempting.

Tell me. I lobbied hard to change Thursday's MLA-LHR-SAN to EK but Mrs. SFO777 veto'd it. She was initially interested but in the end decided she just wants to get home and didn't want to overnight in DXB. OK, just don't complain after 3+ hours in Air Malta Euro-fraud Business Class and/or when BA First (aka J+) goes south. :D

Just book it and don't tell her until you get to the airport! :D

As for the euro biz BS, I have a KLM flight from AMS-BUD. I paid $145 r/t in Y and it's offering me to bid for upgrade starting from 119 EUR each way. They serious?

jlisi984 Jan 4, 2017 5:35 am

Hmmm. I'd like to do this, but then I keep thinking this is too expensive. :D Problems, decisions, yikes. Thanks SFO777 in any case.

t4y4r Jan 4, 2017 3:36 pm

Thanks Calchas! Still tempting....
