You can credit to AS who is giving a significant bonus for F flights.

Emirates increases bonus for biz and first from 19 Dec 2016

How do you go about booking the return in a different class than the outbound?

A multi-itinerary build on Emirates let you select the class for each segment.

Thanks for the heads-up.
Will look into it.

Would there be any implications (either from Emirates or Alaska) if you accidentally missed the return flight?

I have had no issues. I have done the return back to just Dubai, and skipped the leg DXB to CPT with no problems.

When you skipped the last leg to CPT, did Alaska give you miles for only the segments you actually flew, or did you also receive miles for the leg you skipped? I wouldn't expect to get those miles but just curious.

I got lucky and received the miles.
