sure however, right now the longest stint is in Chicago.....so it does work with selecting Europe --> MIA --> CHI --> Europe

So I am wondering if someone has managed to do the same except for the long stint being in MIA (not stopover but the staying in MIA between arrival and departure flights (as things stand, CHI is the "holiday" destination).

What you are asking is simply: is the fare available at the same price to MIA?

And the answer is no, not currently.

However you can either:
- buy a higher fare to Chicago in one direction which does allow stopovers, or
- buy the same fare basis (ILN4Y4T1) to MIA at the MIA price

The first option is only 300 quid extra; the second option a little bit more than that. Both still a very reasonable price to MIA.

:-) That would have been the simpler way of asking, yes. Sorry for the confusion.

cheers.

Are there any other Caribbean destinations available for a similar price?
Or just SJU and STT?

I did a pretty thorough search and it only worked for STT and SJU. I did however tie this in with the other YUL/ORD fare and booked the following for next spring for $965:

Mar 30: FCO - SJU (connecting in LHR and SFJ)
Apr 1: SJU - YUL (CLT )
Apr 2: YUL - CDG (LHR)

So it's nice the two can be looped together

Just wanted to book and it's suddenly 1400 € instead of ~ 900 €. Is this gone?

The itinerary you posted doesn't have you on BA1...which is easy to get!

Thanks Tafflyer...

I did book something, I'm very happy with. It's been one huge faff-A-round, but got it done.

I was looking to book over Christmas - we are going skiing, already have ski passes (pre purchased on a deal) already have family condo reserved at Snowbird... have kids in school with restrictive school holiday schedule. Traveling with ski's....

what else could I throw in the mix?

Oh, I know, I already have tickets in economy in LH bought months ago via an OTA for this itinerary. Has a cancellation fee of 190 E pp

I just didn't want to sit in economy. Been working too hard, not in the mood. etc.

So, booked:

18 Dec AMS-ORD on the non-stop - - will buy a ticket from ORD to SLC or RNO (still thinking about where I want to go, possibly JAC).

8 Jan - return flight, SFO-FRA (A380) - AMS 1 hr 20 min connection in FRA. Wanted to be on A-380 or 747 uppder deck for one segment. It's like a Christmas pressie for my daughter (instead of new iphone or some other stupid electronic screen)

Used my best charms, got OTA to call LH and waive the cancellation fee. Total price: €1430 p.p. :-::-:

Took my hours to sort, but it's sorted. I can stop stalking the blogs, google flights, and FT and get back to work for a bit.

And I think the other members of the forum will be pleased that I stop taking up so much digital space

Not a MR for me, but a (much needed) proper hol-eee-day.

PS - this will put me at Plat with UA

You need a holiday after all your legwork. By my reckoning, this is the 4th ticket you've bought for your Christmas SLC ski vacation.

Enjoy!
