LA: SYD-AKL rt A$832

Flat bed business class between Sydney and Auckland on LAN, available on most dates I checked. AKL-SYD rt is even cheaper.

The good thing is that this is not a special fare.

And the bad thing is that the earn with QF is pretty ordinary.

I am ignorant, but why is this a good deal for such a short flight?

DUflyer Jan 5, 2016 6:15 pm

Because all other business fares on that route are almost twice as expensive and typically offer only recliner seats.

Isn't this only a 3.5 hr flight? Are lie flats really even necessary/useful in such a route?

DUflyer Jan 7, 2016 7:21 am

Hmmm, now you're making me think. I'm only driving 50 minutes a day, is it really even necessary to have a Lamborghini?

But sure, you are right of course. No need to book a lie flat for A$832 when you can book a recliner for A$1350.

No, I think what we were saying is why not just fly coach, at 1/3 of the cost, for such a short flight. This is certainly an okay deal for someone who must fly in F/J for some reason (COS, silver spoon, etc.), but not worth the money for most people IMO.

To each their own, of course.

Isn't Emirates on this route fully flat A380?

Yes, but it is generally US$ 100 more. The LA price is very slightly cheaper than normal business class on this route (so not half as much) but superior. It is not however a 'deal' as it is the normal price.

Great route to try LA's 787 business class is MAD-FRA for US$226 return. One ways can be really cheap.

DUflyer Jan 16, 2016 6:03 am

1. Economy is typically $400+ on that route
2. Emirates business is $450 more expensive
3. I have never seen LAN (or any other carrier) business class that cheap before and I have flown that route quite a few times. Have you? In my book this fare is a deal. If Emirates/NZ/QF have a special, they are still more than $1000.
4. I didn't know this is the "premium fare deal only if business is cheaper than economy" forum
5. I also didn't know this is the "premium fare deal for flight over 4 hours" forum
6. If you don't like the deal, or don't think it is a deal then don't book it. Simple.

My bad... (and some other people made the same mistake too I think): you are of course talking about AUD, not USD. In USD the fare is $570.

With so many dollars around, we get it mixed up sometimes. :)

Apologies for my confusion! Should have noticed the A$. Good find! ^

As noted by others, ex-NZ is cheaper still and yes as a regular non-sale fare.

agreed. Decent price for the product, but not a super sale either on this route.
