yeah-seeing the fare code basis as a Q-UP
Essentially what that means is that the underlying fare code is an economy fare that books into a higher cabin, so you may earn miles at the economy rate (Q-class) (though there are many reports of the class-of-service bonus) and may end up in economy in the event of IRROPS

SFO-LIM AA Mid-Summer and Pre/Post Winter Holidays
~$1800...K-Up fare apparently. 18cpm base.
Thinking about post Xmas myself. Really want to spend a few days in Lima. Supposed to be a wonderful city.

$1700-1800 is a standard fare for that route. I actually see $1531 in June.
Note that after February 28, miles will be earned on dollars rather than miles. That's going to reduce miles slightly - from 22,000 + to around 18,000 (for a 1K, assuming an $1800 ticket). The nice thing about the SFO routing is you can get 100% lie-flats.

AA and LAN are regularly (not always) offering a fare of $ 1100 - 1300 from DFW and MIA, which is comparable. Add a $ 400 separate RT ticket to connect from LGA/JFK where those fares are never offered and it still is quite a good deal from the NE.
