DTW (McNamara) Shut Down for an Hour
Looks like another episode of "lets let the bag with the suspicious item out of our control" at the checkpoint.
Security clampdown delays Metro flights
Security clampdown delays Metro flights
Thousands of airline passengers were delayed Tuesday when the security check point at Detroit Metro Airport’s McNamara terminal was closed for about an hour after a woman, carrying a bag pegged for inspection, walked away before the luggage was checked.

A security officer watching the carry-on luggage screenings spotted what looked like a blade in a bag, but the passenger left the area before officers could check, said Lara Uselding, a Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman.

STUPID!!!
The "security" employees who tagged the bag and the imbeciles who closed the checkpoint should be fired with prejudice.
"Screenings were stopped at about 2:05 p.m. and weren’t resumed until 3:10 p.m., after a woman was found in the terminal with a similar bag.
Her bag was checked and did not contain “prohibited items,” Uselding said."

Seriously, this requires some sort of investigation or something. I'd like to see the TSA dicipline (read: fire) the TSO's responsible.
There simply is no reason why a passenger should get his/her hands on a bag that has not been cleared yet. The x-ray machines are designed to prevent this. The TSO's are trained not to allow this.
Hundreds of hours of productivity was lost over this really stupid mistake. I think the TSA (our tax dollars ) should have to compensate the airlines for their losses as well.

Really, it's either one or the other:
1) Halt operations and run a terminal dump. Arrest any passenger who grabs their property and runs away like that, since a normally-walking pax should not have been able to touch their uncleared bag.
2) Admit nothing got through that was a hazard to the airlines, and just review the video and whack a few staffers.
The uncleared bag, once out of sight of the checkpoint, should have made the entire terminal unsterile. As should any unscreened employees, parcels, cargo, and contractors who drive their tool-laden vehicles onto the ramp.
