Scanning BP's - confused

I'm a bit confused. Is TSA scanning ALL boarding passes from EACH airline? Or only a few airlines? And at ALL airports, or only a few for now?

Thanks for the clarification.

Only at airports with the scanners.

IAD does not have them. DCA, as of 3 weeks ago, does not have them (AA pier). LAX DOES have them (AA/Term 4). JFK (AA) did not have them as of 3 weeks ago.

Spotted in Austin

I noticed they had them at AUS last Wednesday. Funny thing was a guy who had his BP on a smartphone (not sure which). They were having a very hard time getting it to scan and in the end gave up. Also massive confusion over the requirement to have the BP in hand when going through the scanner at the same time as wanting to have electronics scanned. Very amusing watching the TSA goons trying to figure it out. In the end they just had him put it on the side of the scanner and pick it up after he had walked through.

You'd have to pay to get entertainment this good!

At DCA recently I had the misfortune to be behind someone that had the BP on his blackberry. No scanners, so he showed it to the document clerk, who black-lighted his ID, carefully examined the blackberry and sent him on his way. He then had to show the blackberry to the WTMD operator, who after being satisfied that it was a BP, made the guy come back and run it through the X-ray. Meanwhile, they held me up until this was all done. It took about 3 times as long as normal.
