TSA: A way with words?!

Last week I posted about a TSA motivational poster that, for reasons known only to its maker, labeled TSOs "impetuous." :td:

This week's gaffe came in the form of a posting made on our in-house suggestion forum, the Idea Factory. A TSO had accused BDOs of being a bunch of do-nothing drama llamas, whereupon a female BDO defended her cadre by insisting they were NOT merely "pre Madonnas"!

Tell me, what exactly IS a "pre Madonna"? The Virgin Mary prior to the Annunciation? Or Ms. Ciccone back in the days before she began shaving her armpits?!

This is probably outside the scope of TS/S, but the OP certifies the direction of this country is going in regards to the English language overall.

So many misspellings, incorrect uses of apostrophes, uses of word(s). All of this is very sad, and only the tip of the iceberg.

It's definitely a doggy-dog world, and civilized discourts hangs in a delegate balance. You look away for a minute, and wala, it all brakes a part.

From m-w.com:

prima donna

Main Entry:
pri·ma don·na Listen to the pronunciation of prima donna
Pronunciation:
\ˌpri-mə-ˈdä-nə, ˌprē-\
Function:
noun
Inflected Form(s):
plural prima donnas
Etymology:
Italian, literally, first lady
Date:
1782

1 : a principal female singer in an opera or concert organization
2 : a vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team

But I gotta say, pre-Madonnas had me giggling.

From what I have seen they walk around in trios with their clipboards and don't do much else except look important. But that's my opinion and it doesn't mean much in the scope of world events.

It's one thing when this stuff crops up in blogs and such, but when it's perpetrated by professional copywriters, who are being paid boocoo bucks ... !

Robert Heinlein lamented over this forty years ago. It's in one of his articles in Expanded Universe. And it has only gotten worse since then.
