Corkscrews?

Are corkscrews verboten now? TSA at SFO found a nice metal corkscrew in my carryon that I thought I'd lost and told me that the corkscrew isn't the problem, but the small (1") foil cutter blade is not allowed.

Never mind that ORD TSA didn't see it/care about it. (to which the SFO lady said, "well, that's Chicago for you")

I didn't want to lose the $20 corkscrew (it has a nice feel) so I checked the bag.

Designed, consistent inconsistencies notwithstanding, IME corkscrews in the US have been permitted, since shortly after 9/11. Had one confiscated in CNS, Australia, though, about 5 years ago, the only instance I found where the AUS airport security experience was less positive than the U.S. one. :p

corkscrews are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags (search for "screw" ;)), but your are screwed if the corkscrew has a blade on it. you must check it or be considered a wine/whine ter'wrist ;)
