Q: Security / Connect time at SJC
 
Trying to get home a day early from a trip.... Do you think I can make a 20 min connect at SJC, from United/Skywest (from Santa Barbara) to Alaska Air?

I don't go through SJC often enough to remember what the TSA setup is.

iirc, you have to exit sceurity to go from one terminal to the other there. Not sure whether you lines are in the same terminal or not.

Ouch.

Maybe I should bust it into 3 one-way tickets (MSO-SJC, SJC-SBA, SBA-MSO).... That should make security entertaining.

Alaska and United both in terminal C which has recently (1-2 years) been changed so that you do NOT have to exit the secure area to connect.

20 minutes ample IF flights are on time.

Correct - there used to be three separate gate areas in Terminal C, but with the airport construction, all C gates have been consolidated. It's a one minute walk from the UA to AS gates.
