I almost never remove my Freedom Bag from my carry on. 19 times out of 20, nobody seems to notice or care.

A plastic gallon milk jug and a 1 liter water bottle will both hold gasoline for at least 15 min, personally verified by Professor Spiff. ;)

I have a washbag with a mesh pouch at the end. I used to use this instead of the ziploc bag. I never had a problem and had used the setup in all of the US hubs without problem, as long as the liquids were visible and removed from the main carry on nobody seemed to mind.

I was coming through SNN recently and forgot to remove the bag.

The x ray screener called for the bag to be searched. The screener searched the bag (pretty sloppily) and came to the washbag she told me she would have to confiscate the liquids. I told her they were all under 100ml and she had no reason to confiscate them. After some back and forth I asked her to call a supervisor.

As she left to get a supervisor I took the aftershave and expensive stuff out of the bag leaving a couple of hotel shampoos and some toothpaste. Nothing I would be upset at loosing ;) This thundering ....... of a supervisor rushed over and proceed to bluster on about confiscating the stuff.

Again I pointed out that they were under 100ml. OK but they weren't in a ziploc bag. Yes but I pointed out they were clearly visible in a clear pouch. OK did you present them separately for screening?

Clearly the guy just wanted to leave with something at that point.

Off he goes with my couple of bottles of Embassy Suites finest shampoo and moisturiser. I look accross at the guy opposite me who throws his eye up to heaven. "Yeah" I said to him "Bollox!"

With this the supervisor runs back "your not getting on any flight today" he picks up my boot, I was putting the other one on at the time, and my bac and walks off. I hobble after him. He throws me back out into the unsecured are and tell the guy checking the boarding cards not to let me back in.

So after all that I book an alternative flight from another airport.

Security were very pleasant.

After the bag goes through the x ray machine the girl brings it over

-Do you mind if I search this?
-Yeah no problem, there's a washbag in there but I have no liquids in it.
-No, it's not that do you have a pliers and a screwdriver in your bag?
-No. Not that I'm aware of.

She searches the bag find nothing. Is perplexed so she x-rays the contents and the bag separately, finally she zeros in on the washbag. The washbag that had been x-rayed and then hand searched buy the screener and the supervisor in SNN. From out of it she pulled a nail scissors - the very strong type that are like a wire snips and a big 6 inch nail file.

:(:mad::rolleyes:

It's not the TSA's call whether you get onto a flight or not.

You should have immediately called for a cop and a representative from the airline.

This wasn't the TSA it was Irish Airport Security (ie a pot walloper in the airport kitchen prior to 911).

They do have the right to remove people from the airport for a day under certain limited circumstances (none of which applied here).

It's not easy to fight the whims of these people - to be arrested for arguing too strongly could result in my loosing the right to enter the US which would screw me up for work in a big way.

Indeed, especially not in Ireland! :D

Oops. My error. Been a long day, and coming off of a red-eye.

Cee is correct. :)

I would caution flyers to think twice about bending the rule regarding sizes, however ... generally, if something is noticeably over about 4 ounces, we will spring into action! ;)

So - what is the rule? Do you have to separate your plastic baggie from your luggage, or do you not?

You find only "liquid packing" to be a farce?

Look around you at the check-point. Farce is as good as it gets. The circus has a phenomenal range, from the supremely ridiculous to the moronically idiotic.

Yes, you're supposed to, but if you don't, you probably won't have your bag searched unless some of the bottles are very close to the size limit.

I can attest to the appearance of the size limit thing. I carry what appears to be a rather large bottle of fragrance with me, but alas it really is 2.5 oz. It gets checked on a semi-regular basis.

And I do usually leave the baggie out. Figure if I'm going to delay the line overall, I'll do it by the TSA's own stupid rules.

I like giving the drone the opportunity to read the insiprational message on the baggie. :) Bonus points if the drone reacts to the message.
