TSA doing security at SDF Convention Center for Obama tonight

I'm in SDF for work this week & noticed that at the convention center, the TSA is doing security screening to get into the rally...thought it was an interesting use of the TSA...

TSA can't be trusted to keep out weapons and explosives out of airports so any reason they would be any better at a convention center?

Thankfully the Secret Service is there to provide the real cover.

Alas, I'm out of town. It would have been a nice opportunity. (not to see Obama, necessarily... ;) )

Interesting how "Convention Center" apparently == "Transportation"...

Haven't we learned by now that DHS/TSA are the Masters at flimsy excuses for mission creep?

"Hey, Bama might be moving along Penn Avenue from the Senate to the White House."

"Sounds like Transportation to me."

can't you see them getting out the UV lights to check IDs of people...

I wonder who authorized this. If it was the Center itself, they are just plain dumb. If it was Obama who requested it, I will seriously reconsider my support for his candidacy. I'm not kidding.

I emailed the campaign the last time this was reported - they didn't respond with an answer. I will send another message, because I find it odd that this is the second time the TSA was caught trying out their security 'skills' at an Obama event.

My thoughts exactly. I hope this doesn't mean Obama is supporting the TSA.

It's things like this that make me laugh when people say it wasn't in the TSA's job description when the homeless guy breached the perimeter of STL.

And they can harass people on The T, San Diego Trolley, Amtrak, etc.

I doubt Obama's campaign specifically asked for the TSA. The Secret Service probably asked for basic help.

And they didn't even get that. :(

The DHS is best served if a Republican wins. They probably lobbied for the TSA to get this detail. @:-)

I thought the SS was smarter than that.

That is my guess too. Doesn't speak well of the Secret Service to rely upon TSA -- after all, the TSA would itself struggle to beat the IRS in a popularity contest around these parts.

Well... well... they're occifers now! See, it says so on the badge.

Can you say "mission creep"?

For the last five years the Secret Service has been part of the DHS, the new Department that runs the rest of the Government. :(
