Thread title is wrong -- FAMs are not approved for all or even most EU flights.

That's funny, per the article:

"Sky marshals set for all EU flights

From correspondents in Brussels | January 12, 2008

THE use of armed "sky marshals" on passenger planes is set to spread across Europe, following a deal on aviation security hammered out in the 27-nation European Union."

Spiff Jan 12, 2008 10:31 pm

"I am glad that we found an agreement which will increase security and balance anti-terrorism measures and passengers' rights," he said.

I wonder when we will hear what that agreement is?

Surprisingly, I thought the same thing. I think it's maybe a combo passenger bill of rights thing with some security concessions, maybe?

The thread title is wrong as of now. It may be different several weeks from now, but a claim like "Sky marshals set for all EU flights" is false -- it is false as of this hour today, this hour even next week, or this hour even next month.

Also, FAMs and sky marshals are not one and the same. The EU member countries' sky marshals are not FAMs.

This thing is not done yet, so what actually gets passed into law, by legislature or regulatory agencies, is debatable. Either way, FAMs are not approved on all or even most EU flights as of now.

FAM's - the US sort regularly fly in to LHR and seem to have a special room at LHR airside to leave their guns. In my experience anyway.

That blog is nothing but a person relying on press reports which don't even have their story straight on this. And then we have the title of this thread which is incorrect as I noted earlier.

This deal is not a done deal and still FAMs will not be permitted on all or even most EU flights even next month or the month after. The EU member states' equivalent of sky marshals seem likely to be approved but even that is not a done deal yet and will not be until March (if ever).

When I wrote FAMs I meant the EU equivalent thereof, not US FAMs, although those are on many EU flights, but on US carriers, of course.

There is no EU equivalent of FAMs, since it is just some member states rather than the EU itself that run air marshal-type programs. This not-yet-finalized "deal" is not even at the point where an EU-equivalent of US FAMs is a given next month, the month after that or even by this time next year.

If this "deal" gets finalized into law, it will mainly come to be because of British and French demands inside the EU and the USG's overseas adventures.
