Tourist Thrown Off Train by Goons Because He Took Photos and Doesn't Speak English

Making America safe, one intimidation at a time. The train is a half hour west of New Haven when the conductor, having finished her original rounds, reappears. She moves down the aisle, looks, stops between our seats, faces the person taking pictures. “Sir, in the interest of national security, we do not allow pictures to be taken of or from this train.” He starts, “I…….” but, without English, his response trails off into silence. The conductor, speaking louder, forcefully: “Sir, I will confiscate that camera if you don’t put it away.” Again, little response. “Sir, this is a security matter! We cannot allow pictures.” She turns away abruptly and, as she moves down the aisle, calls over her shoulder, in a very loud voice, “Put. It. Away!” He packs his camera. Within a minute after our arrival in New Haven, two armed police officers entered the car, approached my neighbor’s seat. “Sir, we're removing you from this train.” “I….;” “I……” “Sir, you have breached security regulations. We must remove you from this train.” “I…,” “I…..” “Sir, we are not going to delay this train because of you. You will get off, or we will remove you physically.” “I…..” Nearby passengers stir. One says, “It’s obvious he doesn’t speak English. There are people here who speak more than one language. Perhaps we can help.” Different ones ask about the traveler’s language; learn he speaks Japanese. |
unbelievable. the saddest thing about it is that other passengers who were close enough to witness what went on did nothing more than ask a few indignant questions. i'm sure it's different when you're in the moment and maybe not completely sure of what is going on, but i would hope that someone would speak up on my behalf were i in that situation.
seriously, what "national security" threat was posed by a man taking pictures from a train? completely outrageous! |

Making America safe, one intimidation at a time. I am sick to death of this crap. How do we get our country back?:mad::mad: |
And as you can imagine, there's absolutely nothing on the Amtrak website about not taking pictures of or from the train. There, are, however, press releases for an annual contest in which people submit pictures of the trains for Amtrak's calendar.
My guess is it's a conductor who was pi$$ed at the world for some reason and found someone she could take it out on easily (no English, not willing to put up a fuss). She deserves the maximum punishment allowed by the union contract. |
Security my @ss. :td:
I'm tired of every little thing being done "in the name of security." Without being able to take pictures of the crap that's going on, it actually makes us less secure. I agree, I want my country back. |
As a side note, last time I remember being stopped from taking pictured from a public transport was back in 90-91 when everyone still feared commies and the like. Where is McCarthy when you need him these days? ;)

Somebody with REAL authority (and a few more functioning brain cells) should have told the ***** to get over herself. and :td: |
If this is Amtrak, it would certainly appear to be okay. See these for photo permits required.

No, just another of those "fighting" the War(sic) with hugely inflated opinions of themselves and their authority. Very sad that the cops seem to have simply backed her up without any kind of investigation; and that other passengers simply sat there and let it happen.

I am neither explicitly saying nor implicitly positing that this did not occur or occur as reported, yet I find it terribly disturbing that after searching I cannot find any other reference or account of this story. Was anyone else able to find anything?

He didn't get tasered?

Culture of FEAR
This is another horrible result of the fear-mongering and faux-security posturing that has gripped this nation in the last few years. It makes me want to puke.:mad:

Here's a suggestion ... check out this comment (emphasis mine): I know it's too late now, but I wonder what would have happened if all of the passengers had refused to let the police take the man off the train. An incident, surely, but who knows? Human history is full of official forces ganging up on one person, of bystanders watching, shaking their heads, but refusing to halt what is going on. It happened to Jesus, it happened to the kid in Florida who got tased. What if we stopped standing by and watching? |
