WestJet: no paper ticket/bp needed for security or at gate

WestJet Introduces Non-Paper Tickets
Canada’s WestJet has become the first North American Airline to offer paperless tickets for passengers. The airline will offer passengers the option of sending their e-ticket directly to their PDA, Blackberry, or cell-phone instead of printing off a boarding pass online or at a check in kiosk.

"If you choose this process a ticket will be sent directly to your mobile device and that's all you need to show at security and the gate," said WestJet spokeswoman Gillian Bentley.

This paperless ticket will be accepted at airports across Canada and possibly a few airports in the United States. This will cut down on paper. That means less paper translate to lower costs. Something at any airline is willing to embrace. No word on whether any US airline is expected to follow.

ummmm yeah, any of you BWI or EWR travelers care to weigh in on how your favorite ID checker will handle seeing your confirmation on your Blackberry screen? :D

I think there is NO chance in hell this will be accepted at any TSA checkpoint in the US.

Couple thoughts:

- Westjet doesn't save paper from the people who check in online, just from people checking in at the airport. Unless checking in on blackberry becomes mandatory (which I assume it won't), people who check in at the airport won't switch to using a blackberry (because people so inclined would already be checking in online)

- When traveling on business, I would continue to check in online instead of blackberry, because I need a paper boarding pass for expenses

Don't see why not, e-tickets are so insanely easy to counterfeit what difference does it make?

Yeah, but don't point that out or the FBI will come knocking on your door. There's a link in this forum somewhere. Oh yeah, here:
