Senior citizen flagged for "suspicious" ice packs

I didn't see this posted elsewhere, if it is, feel free to move/delete as needed.

From ABC News: A 66-year-old Long Island woman was responsible for the "dry run" in SAN. According to the article, she carried them for her bad back.

WAY TO GO TSA!

I heard about this yesterday, so I'm sure there's a thread on it. :)

Kudos to TSA! I feel much safer!

Discussed here, but thanks for the additional info.

So, even though they cleared her and the bag, they acted as if this was a terrorist threat.

Wonder what other fabrications are put into those daily TSA briefings.

WAY TO GO TSA!

They questioned her for 3 hours? Tell you what.. nobody holds me at an airport for 3 hours without arresting me. The mantra is "Am I free to go? Am I under arrest?"

Pretty awful that she was treated this way, especially after they realized she WASN'T a terr'ist!! One thing's for sure though, she wouldn't have gotten treated this way in TLV :D!

I didn't even know when she bring ice packs onboard the flight few days ago. It was not allowed bring ice-packs onboard by aircraft. She doesn't understand what is situation from airport safety rules. She will never happens again while she was flying from cross country flight. I have read all information about the woman a back problems. She should need take care of it. I mean she is not a terrorist at all.

yup and if "yes, you're under arrest", it's followed by "on what charge?", "i want a lawyer" and "i want my one phone call" and that's all i say.

Are there any legal remedies in these types of situations?

Totally unbelieveable. I especially like the part when they asked her if she knew Osama Bin Laden.

This senior citizen would have said, "Yes, he's my cousin."

When do you throw the line of "Am I under arrest?". Usually these questioning starts quite innocently, of "We just need to ask you some questions and you can be on your way". At what point do you realize that it is not what it seems to be?

BTW there are normally 3-4 of them standing around you and intimidating you...

If it was me, I would ask as soon as soon as the cop took me from the boarding line to the back room, or very soon after getting to the room. Let them intimidate me all they want, my answer is still "if I'm not under arrest, I'm leaving." And if they "detain" you, refuse to answer any questions until you can consult with an attorney.

Remember, TSA has no arrest authority.

What I can't figure out, is what was the clay for?
