Airline specific SSSS question

Sorry, I did not fully explain my interest in the story on ABC's Good Morning America which can be viewed at the Phoenix TV's station's website:
www.abc15.com about that city's Sky Harbor Airport.

I am 1K and fly accordingly. I have NEVER been singled out for SSSS except arbitrarily just after 9/11 when they were grabbing middle-aged white guys as we started to board First class - I think simply to prove to everyone else that they had NO reason for who they selected.

But since I became 1P that has never happend since, EXCEPT on American Eagle which I am sometimes forced to fly to tiny airports.

I thought they shared a data base?

The experts at the Travel Safety/Security forum can answer your questions. I am moving this thread there.

There is no shared database, except the No Fly List.

Each airline has a collection of similar flags, blessed by the TSA, which they use to identify customers for secondary.

They include things like...

* Last minute purchase (includes rebookings, re-routes)
* One-way tickets
* Cash paid tickets
* Frequent seat changes

Each airline applies the criteria to customers as they see fit.

And, at least for United, anyone connecting to TLV.

NEVER did any of those things and ONLY get zapped on American Eagle

How often do you fly Eagle? Do you also fly mainline American? Do you have status with American? Do you have an AA frequent flyer account? Is your name spelled differently on your AA account and your credit card? Do you book your travel yourself? Do you enter that FF number into the booking prior to ticketing?

Airlines also seem to like to SSSS those traveling w/o FF numbers in their records. If you were on AE and had a different airline's FF number in your record that could certainly be the cause. I've also heard of problems on interline tix...

Last minute (like, less than an hour before departure) one-way purchase with FF# on CO = no SSSS. Rebooked onto AA one-way less than 2 hours with no FF# = SSSS. YMMV.

Last minute...

Last minute date-changing standby out of PSC yesterday on the return end of a DBC ticket, and got SSSSed. Not only the whole ten yards at security, but there was a friendly TSA note in my checked baggage when I arrived in BOS. First time ever on United. (Used to happen all the time on OW-booked WN flights.) On the other hand, the UX GA didn't try to charge $100.
