XBOX 360 as a carry on?
So I'll be flying MSY-DCA on Wednesday and want to know if I should have a problem carrying on a XBOX 360 in its metal carrying case.

By some definitions, the Xbox is a computer, so you may be asked to remove it from its case and have it x-rayed separately.
That should be the extent of your grief. Happy gaming. |
I think it should be fine like that in its case. I see plenty of XBOX 360s and PS3s come through all the time and the owner will usually have them in their own bag and some padding instead of putting a bunch of other items on top.
Though you might run into someone who has never seen these consoles on the xray before and they might call a bag check because they'll see the hard drive inside a metal case and say it has to be removed even if they can see that there is nothing else in there. To be on the safe side, you could take it out and place it by it self since it is a computer. |
Update for TSA Precheck line
I realize this thread is 8 years old, but I was looking if anyone had updated info about gaming systems as a carry-on in the TSA precheck line. Not seeing any updated info, I thought I'd post my results from today in case anyone else like me tries to look.
The screener told me this morning that gaming systems can remain in the bag if your in the precheck line regardless of the size. |
Ive worked all over, and at the end of each tourism season, i used to fly back with 2 laptops, my xbox, 2 hard drives and my kindle, i had no issues but i always removed from the bag

I've flown out of BOS twice this year (both times Terminal A, Precheck line) with consoles in my rollaboard; the PS4 went through unquestioned, the PS3 wound up requiring a bag check. (There was a lot of wiring/batteries/etc in there along with it, too.) No big deal either time.
I doubt an X360 or X1 would have any particular issues. |

While you're at it, why not ask some other uncontroversial questions such as "iOS or Android," or "what city has the best pizza," or "what is the one true religion?" :)
