Are walkers allowed onboard?

My gramma will be leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow. She wants to bring her walker --not necessarily on the plane but would like to have it with her to use in Hong Kong.

Does anybody know whether Cathay Pacific or Air Canada allow passengers to board planes with walkers? (this is a folding walker). Do FA's have a stowaway compartment just for these?

If not, should we check it in? How should we check it in? Am afraid the walker will get broken by callous handlers :(

Thanks for any help!

I would be very surprised if CX wouldn't accommodate a walker so long as it folds down reasonably small.

Hmm surprised.. so does that means they generally DO allow walkers? This walker can be a little more bulky than the standard ones tho.. it has a place for her to sit if she gets tired and a basket to put things in. but still foldable.. but not sure how compact.

I wish i could find a picture to show you... am looking...

It's similar to this:

Ah - that's somewhat bulkier than I imagined. Why don't you give CX a call and ask them? At the end of the day it's going to be their decision. One option might be to take it from her onboard and get it stowed in the hold. I know they do that sometimes with wheelchairs.

I think she'll have to check it and be wheelchair'd on/off the plane. The weight and bulkiness may prevent her from gate-checking it. I don't ever recall seeing any of those at the end of jetways, but if families leave strollers there...

Let us know the outcome.

**Whoops, I see you cross-posted the same question over there. FYI, that's a no-no.

These can be gate checked. They fold up enough, and in most cases don't need to be folded.
