Sensible Security
 

Too bad this isn't at an airport. But maybe there is hope yet.

Less intrusive security procedures will begin at Independence National Historical Park tomorrow, easing the movement of visitors to Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, according to park officials.
Screening for Independence Hall will take place between the hall and the first Supreme Court building, commonly known as Old City Hall, directly to the east of Independence Hall.

All magnetometers have been removed from the park.

Visitors with bags and packs will still be subject to visual screening, but X-ray machines will no longer be used.

Its about time. The old system was a disaster waiting to happen, with hundreds of people crammed together in a security line. One small bomb and you would have had carnage on the doorstep of democracy. Keeping people moving and avoiding those type of logjams needs to be just as much a part of the security system as the "screening."

That's a good point and one that seems to be lost on airport security. There is not much in place to control what people might do prior to entering the "secured" area.

No kidding.

Take a look at DEN now. They reduced the amount of magnetometers a few months ago, and the lines are insanely long now. More and more people at DEN are sitting ducks.

But just as long as the "security" charade is going along, that's apparently just fine with the TSA.

And no questioning if the policy was REALLY keeping people safer or about the threat of someone blowing up people ahead of time.

Don't need the government to do propaganda when the media don't even question it. It's an efficient propaganda machine.

Nice idea, but given that airline passengers carry lots more crap with them and much bigger suitcases this likely wouldn't work.

Require all bags bigger than a laptop case to be checked and you have a different matter.

Yesterday morning in CLT lines at security were so long one would not want to think of what one "small" bomb would do to air travel. Who needs to hijack another plane ?
