block of tofu

hey, anyone ever try to bring a block of tofu (12.3oz) in your carry-on? in this type of packaging http://www.morinu.com/store/page3.html
tofu is a solid ~90% water, and on the tsa website i see they count jello as a liquid, even though it is a solid.

You'll be at the whim of each screener's individual decision.

Yep. "The law is the law."

We're a nation of men, not laws, after all.

Have I ever tried it? -- No.

Would I? -- Probably not.

What are the chances it'll be confiscated? -- Flip of a coin (1 in 2).

Anything else? :p

I'd press out all the water and then wrap the brick up in Saran wrap. It may still not get through, but it will be much more like a firm cheese that way with the water removed and I've never had a problem with cheese.

Also ... tofu's cheap ...are you going someplace where it's not available?

as a follow up, i got the block of tofu through SFO security last night, no questions asked.
YES, I saved a dollar in not having to buy another block of tofu

You want to take the tofu on a plane? But what if it gets in someone's mouth? Hazardous materials alert...;)

In all seriousness, have fun making the screener's head explode.

Not to worry. This is just tofu, not something which requires a HAZMAT license for interstate transport, like lutefisk or haggis.

You know, someone could have alot of fun traveling around the country trying to bring odd items through security such as tofu and documenting the results.

Couple of thoughts:

- A soaked sponge inside plastic baggie with more than 3oz liquid net weight
- Exactly 100 .03oz sample size packets of eye cream inside a baggie
- Ice cream cake
- Multiple pairs of gel filled insoles
- Various filled donuts (ie, jelly ok but no on the boston creme!)

:D

Was it the firm variety or the silky one? The silky ones hold a lot more liquid.

- 1l bag stuffed with 10 100mL bags of Kimchi, as sold (complete pack) pre-security at ICN.

considering how its made, I would not swear in court that Lutefisk isn't flammable...

(and if someone has tried it, I want to see some video :)
