Customs control of aircraft

Flying CO out of IAH last weekend to DCA. Agent says our aircraft at the gate was "damaged" and they need to find a new plane. They find one inbound from Honduras and he mentions customs will take control of the plane for 5-7 minutes. What do they do? Drug dogs? Is 5-7 minutes long enough to do anything?

They take control of it the way they take control of you. Anything or anyone entering the US is subject to search and inspection. Usually customs checks cargo for smuggling and contraband. Might use dogs too.
