How good are we at detecting future technology?
This question is mainly for those on this board who are TSA folks.
I was watching a show last night where they were demonstrating a new weapon. Suffice it to say the parts are all plastic expect for a metal piece that would could easily be attached to a rollaboard. It does use a plastic ex. paste but metal detectors don't look for that do they? My question being, is the TSA activily involved in looking for new technology or are they just reacting to things that have or might have happened? Do you guys get training for any new technology? *edited to add that the weapon demonstrated ability to blow a hole through a tank or even disable a destroyer and it's just a bit larger than a soda can.* |
They can barely find the most basic of planted weapons - their ability to track and find high tech weapons is about nil...or less than nil if there is such a thing.
Perhaps the TSA has a study group which looks at these developments, but as far as the screener force being armed with the tools and training to find that stuff? Forget about it. Hard to be looking for a ceramic bomb casing when one is too busy confiscating that 8oz bottle of hot sauce from Uncle Julio. |
Well they can't see liquids in your carry on, thus we have to put them in a bin for them to look at with their own eyes! Good luck with them finding any new 'plastic' weapons.
