experience with metal knitting needles?

A friend asked me if these were ok to carryon. The TSA website says yes, but does anyone have any RL experience being denied with them?

I just wanted to add, I did a search, but while everyone agrees they are permitted, and agrees that may still not ensure you get through with them...so I wondered if anyone had actually ever been turned away with them.

My wife carries a set. You could shish-ka-bob someone with them!

which, of course, isn't really dangerous unless you pour shampoo on them. ;)

I gave up metal for plastic and wood a long time ago (long pre-9/11) when I had a pair of metal knitting needles taken from me by what ever airport security screeners we had in those days.

I also use a plastic or wood crochet hook for the same reason.

Why mess with the TSA?

Not a problem on USA airlines.

A Qantas flight attendant threatened to take my wife's knitting needles away and insisted that they were illegal.

Recent int'l experience with knitting needles?

Does anyone have any experience with knitting needles of any kind while traveling internationally since last year's liquids/gels threat? I am wondering if they are cracking down more on everything. The needles I'm using now are metal but look plastic. I could switch to circular or bamboo if it would make a difference. We're flying out of JFK-CDG next week and CDG-JFK at the end of the month. It's the security screening at CDG that I'm more worried about.

Background: I fly domestically on AA all the time and take knitting needles, including metal ones, and have never had a problem. Internationally, I fly primarily AA metal and have taken my knitting needles (and knitted during the flight) to LHR, NRT, ZRH, FCO, and even SYD on QF (back in 2003). I have not had a problem.

Thanks.

It's probably OK unless you start to knit an Afghan

:p
