Checked baggage Help!

Ok, let me preface this with I think my mom is nuts.

She has gone on to the TSA website and somehow has gotten it into her head that her checked baggage has to also have all the liquids put into a ziplock baggie and put on the top of her check luggage (obviously inside the bag). Is she nuts? Where the hell did she read this since I can't find that stipulated on the TSA website.

Any help ASAP would be great. I am in NYC and she's in Seattle on her way to SFO tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

She's not nuts; the rules are confusing and constantly changing.

But, no, she does not have to put them in a Kipper Keeper if she puts liquids in her checked baggage. Let's try to keep this quiet, though, as TSA might think this is a good idea.

Do you happen to have any idea where the heck she read this though? I would really enjoy having evidence to back up my rant at her in a second :)

"If in doubt ... put in checked luggage"

It's not required by Kip and friends. However, I usually put the liquids that are in checked baggage in zip lock bags (when I check luggage). Checked luggage experiences changes in air pressure which can cause liquids to leak from their containers. This can cause an unpleasant surprise when one arrives at one's destination. I put any liquids I check in zip lock bags to prevent this. Also, if it's in a sealed zip lock bag, the liquid that leaked can usually be easily recovered and returned to it's container upon arrival.
