Flying with a desktop computer,

Does anyone anticipate any significant difficulties flying with a new in box desktop PC in my carry-on rollerboard from a TSA perspective?

I would also like to know if a metal stand for an LCD projector would give me any problems. Checking the stand is negotiable, checking the computer on US Airways is absolutely out of the question.

The last time I flew with a desktop computer as a carry-on was pre 9-11

The computer will not be any problem, in my experience. In general, electronic items are fine, although they may (but probably won't) hand inspect it.

I'm not sure what you mean by a metal stand for an LCD projector - you mean one of those portable folding tables? Probably also no problem, although that's less predictable, especially if the legs come off completely and look like a weapon. (I often travel with a big tripod, which no one has ever complained about).

I've flown with computers and large duplicators and screens often, but only on CO, and I do it often. I've done screens as well. Never a problem. I've taken them in boxes, in carry on, and just as they are. I have had them wrapped in Plastic and taped up by the check in folks for carry on as they asked if I wanted it more protected and I said sure. I've put them overhead and in the coat closet, never a problem. I've not had a problem with the airline, TSA, or anyone. I've gone through the islands, GUM, HNL, IAH, and such with them.

In fact next week, I'm flying back from the mainland to the islands with a computer system, a five bay duplicator, and a screen.

I really appreciate the response - I have been in a real panic over it.

Since their introduction I have only had a single encounter with the TSA that might be described as painless. I usually get the third degree from some prick from stereotype central casting and I have been having horrible images of the machine being torn apart by some static-insensitive TSA retard.
