my condolences on your mother's passing. when my lover passed away (we lived at the jersey shore) his parents wanted to do a memorial service in Michigan where he was born and raised, since I have his ashes I wanted to bring them with me so that those who did not make it to the funeral would be able to see his remains for the memorial. The crematorium gives you a certificate acknowledging that who it is, the date of death and cremation and reg number (it is small and they give it to you at the end with all the mass cards - this is all that is required to travel with the ashes. I carried a copy of the death certificate to be certain but it was not necessary. An ash box fits perfectly at the top of a rolling carry-on he did fine and i didn't feel like I shipped him. I hope this helps.
