Most Florida water has a pretty off taste to it--not just FLL. It's perfectly safe to drink, but it doesn't taste very good. They don't have the nice mountain reservoirs we have up north. I'm not sure that any filter is going to change the flavor of the water, though. It'll filter out germs and maybe contaminants like lead, but I highly doubt it'll change the fundamental flavor.

I don't think there are many places that can beat Dallas in having nasty tasting water, but the Brita filter takes out almost all of that bad taste, so the filters do work.

I flew last week and put an empty 8 oz. Dasani bottle in my backpack to fill at a water fountain after going through security. I figured if they caught it on Xray, I would either (a) tell them it was empty and that wasn't against the rules, or (b) feign absentmindedness -- "Oh I totally forgot that was in there!"

I made it through TPA and BWI security with no problems.
