No Security at Airline Check-In Counter!!
Recently flew from JFK to Paris on Air Farce. While checking in Biz class, no line, waiting for the agents to wrap up their conversation and do their job - check us in - we begin to overhear one of the agents ask the other about a previous customer. As the other agent FINALLY acknowledges us standing three feet in front of her by holding her hand out over the counter, we understand that this previous customer perhaps was not on the up-and-up, either with his ID, information provided etc. The other agent is asking her doesn't she think she should call someone, or let someone know. So help me - the agent looked right at her and said "Oh Like I Care." Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the first line of defense for our airlines. SHE DOESN'T CARE! We are getting harassed out the yazoo to get on the plane, and paying for it, with wasted time in security lines, harassment for no other reason than we choose to fly, paying the airfare, airport taxes, and government taxes, and Miss Agent doesn't give a rip about who she just let on a flight.
Meanwhile, people were walking on the planes with drinks - forget the liquid and drinks ban. And I'm not talking one or two, I'm talking sitting in a middle row, and counting no less than ten people with cups and bottles boarding, that I saw. On the return flight, searched no less than four times from the time we walked into the airport to the time we got on the plane - at one airport - and at the last check point, matches were removed from my purse, and I was haughtily told that matches were not allowed. I told her that matches were allowed, but that lighters weren't. She said no matches and tosses them into the garbage. Next to me, my husband stands not two feet away, getting searched, empties his pockets with two match books, and they are returned to him and told to have a nice flight. Don't ask me why I'm hostile and have an attitude when I have to fly. At least now I can carry my own lube again for the searching. >:-( |
Traveling D, welcome to FlyerTalk! Sorry to hear about your recent experience. It is rather disconcerting for what many here consider to be kabuki security.

Until they publish all the rules and make them accessible to pax, you'll see this sort of idiocy. And when you complain about it, you get the, "Sir/Ma'am, the rules have recently changes / you do not know the rules / do you want to fly today?" bit. 99% of SSI does NOTHING for security and just serves as a refuge for mornic behaviour such as you witnessed. |
