I don't understand why the papers get upset by these elite lines. If anything, it's very American to differentiate among people based on what they pay! I guess we just have to get use to reading these articles, again and again and again!

The sad part is, I will bet you any money that this exact segment will 100% favor extra screening for middle-eastern/Arab males.

Egalitarian society - ha!

You're not stereotyping, are you? ;)

Although perhaps a reasonably safe bet:

Feel guilty? Not a chance. People just need to grow a thicker skin... or stop looking at the regular line :D

I can stand in a shorter line as an elite at most of the airports I travel through. I don't need registered traveller.

And if you're not a US citizen (or green card holder I think), you cannot get even get it - regardless of how often you travel on US airlines. :td:

...but we all pay the same security fee, and the screeners work for the feds. Elite lines seem fishy to me.

marxists complain about everything...

i'm definitely looking forward to the RT program.

Well, certainly if they sorted the passengers according to their frequency of flight you'd get people who know how to take their laptops out, their coats/shoes off, and the freaking keys ouf of their pockets.

Also, if you put all non-citizens in a special line (like customs, natch) you could probably get 80% of the value of profiling without having a three finger exam from the reality deniers at CAIR/ACLU/etc.

Egads! Good thing I kept a copy of the nastygram I sent the Washington Post after their buffoonish complaint about 'elite security' at airports a few weeks back.

Does anyone know how to contact the reporter for this article (and their editor) so I can send my letter and get in some 'fair and balanced' (sorry) commentary?

The airlines control the lines leading to the checkpoints, not the government.

Case closed.

That was a goodie (and hopefully not too moldy at this point. :))

Try [email protected] or other obvious variations. As for the section editor ... ??? Maybe just call their 800# and ask?

OMNI: Interesting, here's his bio from March 2003.

Letters to the editor go to: [email protected]

What, avoiding the ACLU or paying special attention to non-US citizens?

How obvious could it be?
