Security in Amsterdam- flight to US
Can anyone tell me what security from Schiphol is like these days? Specifically, are there separate lines for flights to the US, or a second gate screening? I'm flying to the US
with my 3 year old and REALLY hoping I'll be able to take a couple bottles of juice for the 2-3 hours before departure-- surely if non-US flights go through the same screening process they won't be taking all liquids off us? Thanks! Kaye |

I hope for the sake of your child (and _your_ sanity) non-US bound pax don't get the special torture the rest of us get. Remember, when it comes to airliner security, YMW(ill)V. |
Final screening at AMS is done at the gate, where everyone/everything is re-xrayed, metal-detected and groped to TSA standards. The only time I've ever dropped my pants in public was at an AMS gate*. If you are travelling on an American airline, you will also have to answer 45 stoooopid questions. Yes, they do destination-specific screening.
However, you can have duty-free purchases delivered directly to the gate and sneak a nip or two (or twenty) during the flight. If you have ongoing connections after your flight from AMS, you will want to drink it all. *It was an accident, I was tired, and the screener w/ the metal detector was very apologetic & probably more embarassed than I. |
I think what MikeMpls was trying to say ( ;) ) was that your child should be able to have his/her bottle in the airport until the gate screening -- then they will be disposed of per TSA regs. I was through there just after then insanity began and that was the MO. Good advice on the duty free, too. :)

Thanks for the info and clarification. Yes, a few sips of duty free might be helpful... ;-) K. |
