I bought some of the tooth powder from Caswell and Masey which is mostly calcium carbonate. Still, I'm wondering before some alert goes out when they start finding all this 'white powder' in the lavatories and start anthrax or drug panics and ban powders for the heck of it too. :(

Re the calcium carbonate, isn't that the same as Tums? But I'm pretty sure
Tums is cheaper. Maybe buy the mint Tums and grind a bit onto your
toothbrush...though I admit it seems bizarre.

I could totally see them doing something wrt white powders...don't give the
TSA any ideas. :)

Calcium carbonate is the main component in limestone, a type of common rock. You don't want to brush your teeth with it.

How sad is it, that there's actually a discussion on how to brush your teeth with ground up antacid pills? I can't wait for the deodorant subsitute discussion!

This has already been a problem on dozens of flights since 9/11. Not to mention the love of screeners to call the DEA anytime they think they've made a "big score" by catching someone with drugs (diverting attention away from looking for bombs, of course).

There was a thread a few months ago where a girl got arrested and jailed for weeks for having a condom filled with flour in her carry-on as a gag stress ball. What's worse is that there were dozens of FT members cheering the fact that she was jailed for three weeks, claiming she "got what she deserved" for traveling with a white powder.

Exactly! The experienced traveler knows to just brush his teeth with the pills directly, to cut out the weight and hassle of carrying around a toothbrush.
