Amenity Kits ... and More

Just returned from Asia (PR 102). I was prepared. My toothpaste and toiletries had been properly packed away and stowed. This was no problem, since I was expecting the amenity kit. Toothbrush, toothpaste, skin lotion, comb, etc.

There were no kits. The FAs said the kits had been taken off the plane along with numerous other items because of security concerns. Does this suggest they are worried about an inside job? I reckon that it would be hard for a passenger to bring fluid on board in an amenity kit that had already been placed on the plane by the airline. (They did have water for the 12 hr + flight, BTW.)

Also, I noticed little yellow security tapes over the edges of all the wall panels. The FAs said there was a very thorough security inspection. All the areas behind the walls (and other nooks) were inspected. The FAs told me that they are under orders to report if any of these small tapes are broken.

Is this stuff going on all over? Particular concerns about the Philippines?

That sucks. Anyone have reports about amenity kits from other airlines/flights?

That is consistent with what we have heard-no more kits! We did, however, get out of LHR on 8/11 and got the kits in F on AA! YMMV!

Cheers

If the airlines don't want premium class passengers' money, I wish they'd just come right out and say so. :(

Are they taking the lotion and liquid soap out of the lavs?

Wait a minute -- I thought the ban was not on actual water, toothpaste, etc. I thought it was on stuff that looked like water, toothpaste, etc, that went BOOM.

I just flew CO EWR-FCO in BF (out Thurs night & return yesterday), and they were still giving out amenity kits that contained: toothpaste & toothbrush, hand lotion, brush/comb/mirror comb, socks, eyeshades, ear plugs, mints etc. You could ask for a razor & shaving cream from the FA's. The lavs had the usual soap and bottled water was handed out throughout the flights.

Small bottles of soap and lotion were still in the lavs.

What about the theory that the airline decided not to put in amenity kits and to blame it on security? (PR, in this case)

So you're allowed to have duty free booze on planes but not amenity kits provided by the airlines...?

Amenity kits were on UA 939 LHR - LAX 8/11

Remember, terrorists always fly in F, so of course the amenity kits must be discontinued. :p

They airlines, presumably, make a profit from on board duty free sales--not on amenity kits.
