Saw the same interview! He said there will be significant changes announced at noon today with possibly more to come in the next few weeks. Will be interesting to see what they will relax in their noon press conference. Said he did not want to get ahead of letting TSA inform their workers.

What he said was that there will be roll backs announced at mid day today by TSA and he did not want to take the announcement of the specific roll backs away from Kip (TSA Chief)

My Bad, your right, I replayed the interview and he wants Kip from TSA to get to announce the relaxing of some of the carry on restrictions later today.

So he wants Comrade Hawley to have his time in the spotlight? Is he tired of looking like such a numbskull himself and is ready to spread the love?

You might say that in jest, but sadly there is probably more then a bit of truth to that!

So what is so top secret with the roll back in restrictions that Chertoff could not go ahead and let us know three hours early!

NBC affiliate is saying announcement will allow some water to be carried on

NBC affiliate here is saying that the noon TSA announcement will allow some water to be carried on and the lifting of several new restrictions!

Is TSA getting itself together after a few days of madness?

Very doubtful, but we can but hope.

At the very least they are moving in a more or less "correct" direction by relaxing some of these new prohibitions and not adding as many of us thought they were considering the stupidity of the UK restrictions for implementation here.

Cheers

^ Well said, the only thing that makes the TSA look good in all this are the idiots at BAA in the UK!

He basically said the same thing on ABC's This Week. He did say that the liquid ban will stay until they learn more and the screeners can make further modifications.

WARNING: Pure speculation follows.
I suspect some of the borderline items may be allowed (e.g. solid deoderant) and perhaps 1 bottle of water. Maybe they will even allow liquids purchased airside (like they do in the UK except for flights to the US).

That is exactly what I believe they will announce today with an emphasis on being able to carry on what you by airside, like you said, even that is allowed still in the UK with the one exception.

Take a lot, give back a little, and the mobs are placated. Sounds like Caesar at work, games and all.

Some correction needed here. BAA (formerly the British Airports Authority) operates 7 UK airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Southampton, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow), several in Australia and Indianapolis in the US.

BAA is responsible for implementing whatever security is ordered by the respective national governments. They have no rule-making powers themselves and thus are not comparable to the DHS/TSA. It's fair to criticise them for the clusterf*ck resulting from the new measures, but not for the measures themselves. In the UK, the correct target would be the Department of Transportation, Douglas Alexander secretary; although no doubt he has to follow orders from Reid (Home Sec) and Blair.
