Suspect in Foiled Plot was a mother with 6 month old

Wow I am surprised no one picked up on this one yet. According to published news reports, at least one of the suspects in this plot was a woman with a 6 month old child. Based on this information, why on earth are they allowing formula or breast milk and banning other liquids. It shows that they clearly are not thinking about the true risks associated with the ban, and in this case the evidence indicates that an exempted item may have been used to smuggle a portion of the material on board.

I am sorry to say this, but formula and breast milk in bottles should not be exempted, as long as we have this liquid ban.

they must ban all babies!! think of the children!!

I wonder if someone could take advantage of the super-absorbent gel "crystals" inside modern disposable diapers and use it to soak up their explosive liquid? Surely there is a way to do this without rendering the explosive inert (nitroglycerine might even be stabilized thereby).

And the diapers on the baby won't get ETD swabbed under most circumstances.

Bet the TSA hasn't thought of THAT one, either.

In the UK, passengers are being made to drink formula and breast milk.

If someone thought that such insanity was US-specific, it should now be clear that security insanity is not geographically-contained.

which wouldn't have caught the bad guys/gals here. They had the volitile stuff seperated from the "safe" liquid.

Lets go the extreme. Pack yourself.

Is there a TNT type explosive with low toxicity? Microencapsulate it in powder form. Bomber starts eating a couple pounds a day, two days before flyiing. No matter when the flight is, the colon always contains two pounds of HE. Insert fuse, light.

Bart: better increase that stock order for rubber gloves. The new ETD procedures just got Real Interesting. :D

Can't say I don't think babies should be banned from planes anyway... Especially since my overhead kid bin idea was turned down...

Yes, and that's why the current measures are insane. That said, a ban on beverages is not going to do much good for long either.

Well, if carry-ons are banned, there's plenty of space in the overhead bins, including the necessary soundproofing. :D

This one's a tough call.

On one hand, we're saying that TSA should take steps to mitigate risks and not blanket ban stuff. On the other, we're saying that everything like this should be banned.

Honestly, one mom is a risk I'm willing to deal with. People have to travel with kids for whatever reason. If the UK wants to make them taste the milk, fine, but the kids shouldn't be penalized because one woman with a baby could be a suspsect.

One thing we have to be careful of is trying to have it both ways. I think this is a case of that.

soundproofing, good idea, I figured we could just reduce the oxygen supply a bit...
