Just like any other government database, garbage in/garbage out.

This is pretty unamerican. Similar to police quotas (bring back 5 tickets a day or you don't go home until you do).

Definately a bad thing to tie financial/career rewards to making reports-just begging for frivolous/false/exaggerated reports. I think this is the only time I've agreed with SPIFF on anything! :-)

Wasn't there a thread on this subject a month or so ago? The purported FAMs who post here claimed that none of these "made-up" reports ever saw the light of day and were discarded. -- Yeah, right.

Those memos were dated back when Tom Quinn was in charge of FAMS. Hopefully, the new FAMS director and Kip Hawley will put an end to this. I agree 100% that this is riduculous and disgusting and someone needs to put an end to it immediatly.

For many years, the FAA. Then, when the TSA was formed, it took over the marshals, Then, IIRC, ICE took over the marshals but has since given them back to TSA. A marshal is bound to correct that if the chronology is wrong.

I think it needs to go back home to the FAA.

I agree with the FAM program in principle, but terrorist 'quotas' are ludicrous and go against everything America stands for.

You are 100% right on. Tom Quinn requested to go to ICE because he felt they were more akin to the FAMS mission than TSA. Cross training of ICE agents to serve as FAMS during an emergency was to take place, but i don't believe that ever happened. When Chertoff took over he decided that the FAMS should have been with TSA all along and switched them back. I believe that all this really does is settle whose budget the FAMS money comes from. We all work for DHS and have basically the same mission which is to keep travelers safe. I'm sure that sentence will now go up for debate.

The fact that something like this could get you on a watch list (which could prevent you from flying, getting a job, credit, etc., etc., etc.) should serve as a warning to the pro-police state people who always refrain, "if you don't have anything to hide..."

Maybe there's also a secret shoe x-ray quote-- that'd explain a lot.

Sometimes I have to travel just to remind myself that I don't live in the worst country in the world.
