a related question: if you enter the u.s. from canada in a car from toronto or vancouver will you then be able to participate in the visa waiver scheme and more importantly, will you go through the fingerprinting process?

Have not yet had the pleasure of jumping terminals to pre-clear in YYZ, but I'm guessing grumpy pax make the biggest difference here. Comparitively few connectors go to the states ex-YYC, but for those who do it's a very short hop in the same terminal to reclaim baggage, etc.

FWIW to the OP, never had a groping anywhere in Canada (yet), but I do have a local passport ^
