Quinn Out

I heard on the news this morning that Quinn has been forced into taking retirement as Director of the Federal Air Marshal program. Personally, I think this change was long overdue. I was somewhat surprised not to see a thread on the topic. Did I miss it?

He announced his retirement to the agency this week, which was unexpected. Many in the agency were under the impression that he was soon to be moved to a different branch of the TSA.

A friend watching FOX News, Fox and Friends this morning said that FOX reported that he was asked to leave due to the numerous problems within the agency. Supposedly Chertoff disliked Quinn immensely. When Chertoff took control of Homeland Security he did make some changes for the better with the agency. He does appear to be our (FAMS) biggest advocate.

Problems within the agency is not new news. Several FT'ers have posted comments related to the asinine practices of the agency, such as pre-boarding and dress code policies. Hopefully the new director will make numerous changes. It may be safe to say that there are numerous law suits to be settled also.

I look forward to the next year, although I am very optimistic of any changes for the better, but I'll pray.

If the theft of premium seats by the government is halted, I'll be pleased.

The problem isn't them taking seats, it is them taking seats after someone already has an expectation that they will get it. It isn't as if all of these seats are going to paid tickets. Why not block off an isle seat or two and then just give them away in the gate lottery if no FAM shows up? That not only prevents people from becoming upset when they lose a "confirmed" upgrade but it also potentially makes a seat available for a Plat who has to jump on an earlier/later flight.

And I agree 24th, Chertoff seems to be making good changes focusing on providing good security without all the moronic inconveniences. If he can just figure out a way to turn the "no-fly" list into something rationale, then he just might become the first government manager with his very own fan club.

I've always felt pretty good about Chertoff, and this latest move just makes me feel better. The FAM program may be unnecessary, but it need not be stupid!
