Uh, in the U.S., common usage of the term "book of matches" refers to a folding cardboard strip that holds 20 matches. In its infinite wisdom, TSA has decided that 80 matches are not dangerous, but 81 will not be allowed. Until the past few days, TSA's brain trust also decided that empty Zippo lighters would not be allowed in carry-on. This is the same bunch that prohibited a WWII veteran of the Battle of the Bulge from carrying a commerorative Zippo lighter onto a flight - check this link http://tsa-screeners.com/start/modul...rder=0&thold=0

This is the bunch of geniuses keeping aviation safe from terrorist. Just a small sample of why several of us refer to Kabuki security.

i would insist that the lighter be handed over in the presence of a) a supervisor and b) a leo (for cya).

if they want to confiscate the lighter, they do have the authority but ask to be escorted back to security to have it done in full view of the screening personnel or have a supervisor come to you. bottom line is that they screwed up and it needs to be documented. if they refuse, that's where the leo is on your side (get the names, get the names...... ;) )

Nice response ^

How much Authority? More and more.

How much Credulity? Less and less.
