Another flight diverted

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050726/...light_diverted

let the stupidity continue...more idiots complain about 'suspicious' passengers...maybe these chicken littles need to just stay home

I wish that authorities would divert every flight; after all, better safe than sorry.

Announcements are made warning pax about moving between cabins - these guys had it coming to them.

Who cares about the 6+ hour delay for the other pax? Better safe than sorry.

In a similar vein...from today's NY Times

"Urging people to use common sense in reporting their suspicions of terrorism, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said yesterday that he was trying to reach the British consul general in New York to discuss an incident in which five British tourists were removed from a sightseeing bus and handcuffed.

"While we keep saying, 'Call the professionals, call 911 or call 311,' you have to exercise common sense," Mr. Bloomberg said at a news conference. He also criticized the Gray Line bus company, which operated the double-decker tour bus, for overreacting to what one of its supervisors saw as a potential terrorist threat on Sunday."

About the Gray Line Bus takeover by the swat team:

When you have everyone looking for terrorists, then too many people are gonna see terrorists everywhere they go.

this is the same guy who ordered random searches of people on subways, almost a clear violation of the 4th Amendment (at least they were not mandatory)...but he doesn't order searches of people boarding buses, which could easily be the next target - terrorists in Israel make unfortunate use of buses as targets there all the time. He doesnt order searches of people on the street (luckily for him), even though any one of them could be carrying 10lbs of centex in their Bloomies bag. Funny for someone who selectively applies judgement themselves to suggest his constituents be rational, after his own actions stirred up their fear and panic to the point where anyone on the street was considered a threat by their neighbor.

Gray Line acted foolishly...yet they were only behaving in the same irrational paranoid way the mayor hinted everyone should be. Now he criticizes them.

bocastephen, to expect consistency of reason (or even reason) from government officials is to expect too much too often.

Look, if I reported every weird thing I've seen on a plane, I could write a book!! Just because some guy with a bladder problem spends an hour in the lavatory, it doesn't mean that he's pulling a grenade out of his .... That would just mess NW up even more. And I don't see why we continue to post these things.

Flying while brunette is now suspicious behavior?

"The three Pakistani men were taken into custody and questioned after other passengers complained that they were moving about the cabin, FBI spokeswoman Gail Marcinkiewicz said"

I have the solution - all Pakistanis, Arabs, Middle-Eastern looking folks SHOULD at all times remain seated - that way,
(a) No suspicion
(b) They all die sooner or later by DVT (remember this was a long-haul flight)

Direct outcome of (b) as some would see it = No more terrorists!

Nah, that was just medium haul at 5450 miles, plus they got a stop in Boston, free of charge, and they were flying eastbound with the tailwind :D .

They were MOVING ABOUT THE CABIN?!?! Aaaaaaa!

Apparently these pax missed the part of the UAL safety video:
*click*
By now you've encountered enough paranoid stares from the white passengers to know that all olive-to-dark skinned passengers are to remain seated for the entire flight.

I bet myself a dollar this is what happened. I happened to pop UAL934 into Google flight tracker at about this time (maybe a couple hours later) last night and it was already at FL280 with BOS as the stated destination.

Or the new Southwest commercial...

*ding* You are now free to move about the country... but if you're Pakistani, Arab, middle eastern looking (insert favorite phrase here), you may only do so while staying seated!

I think the "solution" suggested by some is more akin to a PSA with the following words: "All passengers who are not currently welcome members of the KKK are reminded to remain seated for the remainder of their journey. Any attempts to go to the bathroom or move about the cabin at any time will result in a diversion to the nearest airport and your possible arrest. Thank you for your cooperation." :(

The natural result would be a de facto apartheid affecting the overwhelming majority of the world's population.
