I was asked to remove my wallet at EWR once. I refused, was sent to secondary, and chewed them out. I got a whispered apology. See this thread for details. Suffice it to say that during the secondary screening they didn't bother to ask me about my wallet at all, but wondered why I had been sent there since I had absolutely no metal on me.

Everytime I have flown through FRA I have been asked to remove my wallet (at least 7 times in the lasy 12 months). One time it was after I had gone through the detector. The dectector didn't beep, but the guy who was scanning me with handheld device wanted it sent through x-ray. I was in such a hurry and so worried about collecting my stuff, that I forgot it. i realized it whan I was on the plane, just as they were going to close the doors. Luckily the let me off and held the plane, for the additional 15 minutes that it took me run ALL THE WAY back to security.
